Program Notes:
Otra vez is dedicated to my treasured friend Cristina Valdés. I was thrilled when Cristina asked me to write her a solo piano piece, and my thoughts were drawn to a funny story Cristina told me about her beautiful daughter Vina. On the morning of Vina’s very first day of school, Cristina woke her daughter up, got her ready and took her to school. The next morning when Cristina woke her up and told her it was time to go to school, a somewhat incredulous Vina exclaimed, “¿Otra vez?” (“Again?”)

Otra vez uses material from my pieces Mozart Doesn’t Live in Seattle (which I wrote for Vina Vu Valdés), Dahlia and Lament. It is written in an introduction and rondo form, to reflect the title of the work.
